Thanks to some of our classmates I got the opportunity to create this self portrait using pastels. I love using pastels so I really enjoyed this activity. Such a wonderful idea to do with a class of students. First I would show some examples of other types of self portraits and lay out specific instructions and criteria (pay attention, clean up after, etc). I would probably seat students in two's so sharing pastels would go over better. I loved the use of the document camera to create the drawing with the students. I would tell students that they need to first watch me create the drawing and then I would allow them to begin to avoid any distruprtions while I am explaining.

Pastel model
Thanks to Karim in class we were able to recreate our interpretation of an Aboriginal model of education with the use of pastels. I loved this activity and it is such an interesting and easy way to include art and Aboriginal culture into the classroom.

Discovery!
Found this when I was walking along side the river bank the other day with great friends! Made me think how fun this might be to do with students. Take them into nature where they can discover new things! (Obviously permission to leave school grounds is required.) I think there are so many things you could do with this cross curricula... Working with photography; students write or draw about what they found in journals; create a background story to go with what they discovered; mapping where they found it! Endless possibilities when it comes to discovering nature!!

Let It Go - Frozen - Alex Boyé (Africanized Tribal Cover) Ft. One Voice ...
Everyone loves Frozen and this has to be my favourite parody of "Let it go". These young children are so musically talented and it is so wonderful to see. Not only does this show these students' musical talent but it also focuses on the dramatic aspect and recreating pieces of film. I feel choir or drama teachers could really benefit from showing this in their classrooms to give ideas to the students on the types of projects the class could possibly try.

Interesting Artwork!
Found this super neat art project up in the Computer Science building at UNBC! Don't know the story behind it but I really liked it!!
Mr. Owl through the seasons!
Owls are my all time favorite animal so this is my crafting project I made in my spare time just for fun. When I was finished I realized that it is something I could use in my future classroom in terms of representing the seasons!

Fun Bookmarks!
These cute little bookmarks were a super fun crafting project that I did with my students on last practicum. I really wanted to do this because I had one extremely artistic student in my class who was amazing at origami. I actually pulled this student aside during the day and taught him how to make these cute little guys and then later that day, during art, he got to teach the rest of the class how to make these! It was such a fantastic experience for me to help this student express his passion for art! The class loved the idea so much that on my last day of practicum they asked to make more and we ended up making a GIANT bookmark that the students could actually fit inside which we later posted up in the hallway!! Such a fun class project and a wonderful end to my practicum.
