This is a model of what I build with children that attend the Kids Workshops at the Home Depot! Fun activities for kids of any ages and we are building all sorts of things!
Thank-you for sharing the photo. What safety considerations are important for this kind of construction project? Are pieces pre-cut for children? Do they have opportunities to choose parts or do they put together the parts provided in a kind of kit? Where would this kind of work fit into an art or art integrated curriculum? It will be good to hear more about this.
Yes, these little boats (and other crafts) come in premade kits. The children do build these with the assistance of either their parents or myself. Wood glue and small hammers are provided to the students to use. This activity would probably fit under the 'skills and strategies' part of the curriculum. Because we are in warehouse the children must demonstrate awareness of safety and environmental considerations.
